K. Sridhar, Deputy Commissioner of Commercial Taxes Department on Tuesday urged traders to promptly pay sales tax to the Government.

Inaugurating a new website of the Puducherry 100 feet Road General Traders Association and distributing identity cards to traders, he said that revenue from sales tax was vital for the government to implement various developmental programmes and schemes.

Puducherry Traders Federation president M. Sivasankaran said that a team from the Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) led by Chairman Mahendra Shah, national secretary general Praveen Khandelwal will visit the city on Saturday and inaugurate the Clean India campaign at Moolakulam near here.

The Puducherry Traders Federation will submit a memorandum to CAIT urging them to prevail upon the Central Government for creation of a welfare Board for Traders and implement the Loading and Unloading Act in the Union Territory, he said.
