Top brass of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), which has achieved its full strength after appointment of two new members recently, has been given responsibilities by the Finance Ministry.
While CBDT Chairman A K Jain's additional charge of personnel and vigilance has been given to senior IRS officer and the newest member in the board Sushil Chandra, another new member R C Mishra has been given the charge of audit and judicial portfolio.
Among other members of the board, Atulesh Jindal will look after the income tax portfolio, S K Ray will handle revenue.
Two other members Rani S Nair and Surabhi Sinha will continue with their old charges of legislation and computerization, and investigations, respectively.
"An order has been issued by the Finance Ministry on December 18 in this regard. With the new appointments and portfolio allocation, the Board is expected to function fastly and smoothly given that the work of Budget preparation is the most important task now," a senior official said.
As per rules, apart from the Chairman, the CBDT, which is the supreme body for framing policy and administrative issues related to direct taxes and for the functioning of the Income Tax Department, has six members.
