Income Tax officials raid premises of agro firm

The Income Tax sleuths raided 19 premises of an agro firm, JVL Agro, across India, including eight houses, offices and factories in Varanasi, on Thursday.

According to reports, the IT sleuths raided the offices, factories and residence in Nati Imli, Ashapur, Ashok Vihar Colony Pahadia, Sahupri, and Chandpur industrial estate simultaneously around 8am in the city.

At the same time, the raids were also conducted at the establishments of firm in Allahabad, Jaunpur, West Bengal, Bihar, Maharashtra, Delhi, and Rajsthan.

The IT officials maintained distance from the media, however, sources revealed that search was on at nine places while raids were continuing at other places for survey on suspicion of tax evasion. The search and survey of IT sleuths continued till late in the evening.

The IT team was led by Joint Director (Investigation) A P Singh and comprised of officials from Lucknow, Kanpur, Noida and Ghaziabad.

Contacted, SP (City) S K Singh, who is presently holding the additional charge of SSP, said: "We have provided three companies of PAC, one woman constable and two sub-inspectors to the raiding IT team."
