The ruling JMM today asked the Shibu Soren government to consider rollback of VAT hike on diesel to ease burden of the people of Jharkhand, reeling under escalation of prices of essential commodities.
"At the party level, the JMM has called on the Jharkhand government to reconsider its recent decision on increasing VAT on diesel from 14.5 per cent to 20 per cent," CM's son, Hemant Soren, told newsmen after the JMM's executive committee meeting here.
Shibu Soren heads the JMM-led coalition which also consists of BJP, AJSU, JD-U and supported by other small parties.
Asked if it was necessary to appeal to the government for rollback, when JMM itself was heading the coalition, Hemant Soren said the functionings of the party and the government were different.
All senior political leaders in the ruling coalition already demanded rollback of the cabinet decision to increase the VAT on diesel.
