Ahead of the possible increase in prices of petroleum products, Jharkhand government today decided to increase the VAT on diesel by 5.5 per cent.
A Jharkhand cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shibu Soren decided to increase VAT on diesel from 14.5 per cent to 20 per cent, Special Secretary B K Saxena told the press.
This would increase diesel price between Rs 1.50 and Rs 1.75 and would come into effect from the date of notification in the official gazette, he said.
