I-T office to work in overdrive
March, 28th 2009

Keeping in view the heavy rush of public for filing income tax receipts during the last few days of March, the income tax department has decided to work extra hours to facilitate public file income tax returns. The receipt counters of the income tax office in city would remain open on weekend and even further, they have extended their office hours on March 30 and 31 for those who are in a habit of doing everything at the eleventh hour.

BR Kaushal, president, Taxation Bar Officer, informed that receipt counters would be open on Saturday and Sunday. Counters would be open from 10.30am to 4.30pm on March 28 and 29, which otherwise are observed as holidays, said Kaushal. He further informed that income tax office has also extended its working hours on the last two days of the month.

While the office counters would remain open from 9.30am to 6pm on March 30, people can file their income tax returns between 9.30am to 8pm on March 31. Kaushal informed that taxation bar has already advised all its members to file returns regularly so as to avoid heavy rush on the last day.

Interestingly, despite being one of the most industrial cities in the country, Ludhiana does not fare well when it comes to paying taxes.
