As part of their ongoing protests against the imposition of 10 per cent excise duty on branded garments,senior members of the Chamber of Knitwear and Textile Associations met Punjab Congress affairs in-charge Gulchain Singh Charak in Jammu on Tuesday.
According to the industrialists, Charak assured them that he, along with MP Manish Tewari and former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh, would meet Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee and Congress president Sonia Gandhi regarding the issue.
The industrialists had earlier met several BJP, SAD and Congress leaders over the matter.
Meanwhile, the stir against the duty continued as several garments units shut down operations on Tuesday. The Chamber of Knitwear and Textile Associations of Ludhiana held a rally at Dana Mandi, while members of the Knitwear Club lodged their protest at the Clock Tower.
