Officers of Customs at Mangalore International Airport (MIA) at Kenjar here on Sunday seized 39 gold pieces weighing 816.450 grams and valued at Rs 25,22,830 concealed in two unbranded AC adapters and two 'DIC' brand car power supply transformers from the possession of a passenger.
The accused is Muhammed Rafeeque Kizhakkante Purakkal, a resident of 15/1013, Nainamvalappu Kothi Road, Pallikandy, Kallai Post, Kozhikode in Kerala. He arrived at Mangalore International Airport about 7.30am by Air India Express fight IX814 from Dubai. Customs officials later arrested the passenger and produced him before the magistrate.
Operations were conducted under the supervision of Krishna Kumar Prasad, assistant commissioner of customs, MIA. Further investigation is under progress in the above case under the guidance of commissioner D Purushotham.
