5% VAT on textile hits common man hard
March, 30th 2016

BJP president Satish Upadhyay has condemned the levy of five per cent VAT on all types of textile by the Delhi Government and said that this was an onslaught on the basic needs of the common man.

He said that clothes are the basic requirement of human beings and this is why not a single state government has imposed sales tax on it since Independence. Due to the imposition of VAT, all types of clothes will become costly and it will also affect the livelihood of the workers in this trade.

Upadhyay said that the expectations of increase in VAT collection of the government will perhaps be met by such onslaught on the common man.

Councillor of Chandni Chowk Surekha Hariom Gupta has also written a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, demanding a rollback of VAT on textile.
