Relief for tax payers as CBDT calls for speedy disposal of rectification applications
June, 08th 2015

The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has asked Income Tax officers to dispose rectification applications as early as possible.

Rectification applications are filed by tax payers who think that the tax slapped on them may not be properly calculated. "It has been a matter of concern that the rectification applications filed by the tax payers before the field officers are not being dealt with promptly," CBDT said in a letter addressed to Income Tax officers.

The CBDT has been pushing for faster resolution of taxation disputes between the Income Tax department and tax payers. Lately the government has been attempting to salvage India's image as a nightmare for corporate tax payers. Rohit Garg, the deputy secretary to the government of India has sent the letters to the IT department.

The CBDT also asked tax officers to look in to the grievances of tax payers and try and resolve them by the end of the next financial year. "..The assessing officers may kindly be advised to promptly settle the grievances related to verification of demand in accordance with the circular," the letter read.
