E-filing of stamp papers soon
August, 21st 2007

Companies would soon be able to file stamp papers electronically with the ministry of corporate affairs, a senior official said today.

Companies are now filing their papers online, with the exception of stamp papers. But we are working on this as well and soon stamp papers can be filed electronically, secretary, ministry of corporate affairs Mr Anurag Goel said at an Assocham seminar here today.

He said that talks were on with state governments and other authorities to implement e-filing of stamp papers. We are in talks with state governments since stamp is a state subject, besides working on modalities to set up the technical infrastructure for the same, he said. About 90 per cent of company records are filed electronically. Mr Goel informed, efforts were on to ensure all documents were filed online, including payments by companies.

He said the much-awaited Company Law Amendment Bill was likely to be presented in the winter session of Parliament.

As regards, the Limited Liability Partnership Bill, he said efforts were on to enact the bill which had been tabled in Parliament and was being considered by a standing committee.

The government is also setting up an Indian Institute for Corporate Affairs at an investment of Rs 211 crore. A detailed project report has been prepared for the institute, which is likely to come up at Manesar.
