The Bombay Stock Exchange benchmark Sensex dropped by about 225 points in the morning trade today on funds selling, influenced by poor industrial production figures and weak Asian cues.
The Sensex plunged by 224.69 points to 20,115.20 at 1130 hours, on reports that industrial production growth slowed down to 5.6% in August from 10.6% in the year-ago period.
Similarly, the broad-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty fell by 72.70 points to crack the crucial 6,100 points level at 6,063.40 at the same time.
A weakening trend in the Asian region further fuelled the market sentiment.
