Former Lokayukta Justice N Santosh Hegde expressing displeasure over the functioning of judiciary, legislature and executive said that the administrative mechanism in India is going from bad to worse day by day.
He was delivering the valedictory address at the vigilance awareness week organised by the Customs, Central Excise and Service Tax Commissionerates here on Friday.
"People believe that judiciary is there to rescue them when other organs of democracy fail. However, I realized a fact in my five years of experience as Lokayukta and many years in the judiciary that even the judiciary has not been spared from the clutches of corruption. A total of 34 cases involving judges in India are still pending before the CBI. We have seen instances of impeachment of Supreme Court judges too. We are witnessing skeletons tumbling out in the state Cabinet too," he said.
Justice Hegde suggested that an annual performance audit system be introduced to evaluate the performance of MPs in the nation. "Let the government monitor how many questions each MPs shoot in a year and how many meets representatives attend," he suggested.
