Direct tax collection in FY-2010-11 up 16.69% in Gujarat

The direct tax collections in Gujarat for FY-2010-11 stood at Rs 17,782.50 crore against the Rs 15,239.70 crore in a year ago period, showing a year-on-year growth of 16.69 per cent.

The tax mop up was lower by little less than two per cent of the revised budgetary target allocation for the fiscal.

"Last year was a successful year when the revised target was almost reached. This year it was little less than 2 per cent, as the revised target was missed by a whisker," Gujarat's Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, R N Tripathi said.

The revised target of Gujarat for FY-2010-11 was Rs 18,136 crore, up from original allocated target of Rs 17,136 crore.

The corporate tax collection (industry) during FY-10-11 stood at Rs 11,024 crore against Rs 9,044.30 crore in a year ago period, a growth of 21.90 per cent.

"The refunds have been higher this year, a move by which the department shall be saving on the interest payouts. Nearly 90 per cent of target allocated by CBDT on refund payments has been achieved," he said.

"Refunds of Rs 193.60 were released within 21 days between April 4 to 21," Tripathi said.

According to Gujarat Income Tax department, the pendency of refunds in Gujarat was 2,64,788 cases as of March 31, 2010, out of which 2,26,495 refunds were issued upto April 20 this year.

"For better public service delivery we shall be opening five more centres this year at different places in Gujarat as part of the Sevottam scheme," he said.

"The centres shall be opened in Bharuch , Vadodara , Ahmedabad, Rajkot and Gandhidham ," Tripathi said.
