A team from the Customs Commissionerate, Pune seized 250 kilograms of opium worth Rs 2 lakh, from two persons near the Kamgar statue in Shivajinagar, late on Friday evening.
The suspects have been identified as Sarang Bhutkar (28) and Dnyaneshwar Jadhav (32), both from Kedgaon in Ahmednagar district. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to have brought the opium to Pune from Madhya Pradesh. A jeep and a country-made pistol was also recovered from the suspects.
The customs officers produced the suspects before the court on Saturday. The court remanded the suspects to their custody for 14 days.
The action was taken by team comprising superintendent D B More, Assistant Commissioner Subhash Shinde, inspector Satish Kulkarni, Ajay Singh, Mohadikar, Rajesh Shirolkar and others.
Acting on a tip-off, we laid a trap and nabbed the suspects in a jeep with possession of opium near Kamgar statute at around 8.30 pm on Friday. Jadhav was the driver of the jeep.
