May, 02nd 2017

The motor vehicle department has extended the last date for one-time settlement scheme for vehicle owners to pay their vehicle tax arrears up to or above five years.

According to an official statement here on Saturday, the validity of the scheme would be extended till December 31, 2017. As per the scheme, vehicle with five or more years of tax arrears as on March 31, 2017 can pay tax. Transport vehicles need to remit only 20% of the five years' tax arrears and non-transport vehicles need to pay up to 30% of five years' total tax to avail the tax break.

The remaining tax amount up to March 31, 2017 of the vehicles would be written off as per the scheme. Vehicle owners need not to submit registration certificate, insurance certificate or welfare fund receipt for paying tax under this scheme, the statement said.
