TOTAL DEPOSITS DIP MARGINALLY ON FORTNIGHTLY BASIS

Though total deposits of the scheduled commercial banks as on May 21 have increased on y-o-y basis, it has marginally fallen on fortnightly basis.

The latest statistics by the Reserve Bank (RBI) of India released on Wednesday showed that the total deposits of the banking industry increased by 14.2% to Rs 45,26,220.20 crore as on May 21, 2010, as against to Rs 39,64,800.47 recorded on May 22, 2009.

The total deposits have marginally declined by 4,997.08 crore to Rs 45,26,220.20 crore as against Rs 45,31,217.28 crore registered on May 7, 2010.

However the case was different a fortnight ago as the total deposits had increased by 14.7% to Rs 45,31,217.28 crore as on May 7, 2010 as against Rs 39,49,781.52 crore registered on May 8, 2009. On fortnightly basis also the total deposits had gone up to Rs 45,31,217.28 crore as against of Rs 45,06,746.61 crore registered as on April 23, 2010.
