Budget lets down twin
July, 25th 2009

The state budget presented by finance minister K Rosaiah on Friday came as a great disappointment for the citizens under GHMC limits.

Though the government claims that it had put infrastructure development on fast track, the budget only mentions about the projects which are either completed or at various stages of completion like airport, outer ring road and P V Narsimha Rao Expressway but does not give any special allocation for city development. It does not even remotely refer to the metro rail project.

There is budget allocation of Rs 250 crore for Maulana Abul Kalam Hyderabad Sujala Sravanthi scheme to draw water from Godavari in three phases for greater Hyderabad. To improve the quality of water supply in slum areas of twin cities, an allocation of Rs 37 crore as been provided.
