The key benchmark indices extended gains in afternoon trade today. The benchmark Sensex advanced 188 points to trade above 14,000 levels at 14,041 levels and the Nifty rose 61 points to 4,172 levels.
Realty, metal, power and capital goods stocks moved higher while IT and FMCG counters were under pressure. The realty index on the BSE surged 5.5 per cent and the metal index was up 3.9 per cent. The BSE capital goods index gained 3.3 per cent.
Among the Sensex stocks, JP Associates was the top gainer. The stock surged 6 per cent. Hero Honda, DLF and Hindalco Industries were the other main gainers in the pack, up more than 5 per cent each.
However, Infosys and HUL were among the losers in the pack, down over 1.4 per cent each.
Asian markets extended gains for the second consecutive day today. Hong Kongs Hang Seng and South Koreas Kospi rose over 1.7 per cent each.
